How to Create a UV Map for a Product and Why it is Needed

What is UV Mapping?

UV mapping is the 3D modeling process of projecting a 2D image onto a 3D model’s surface. The term “UV” refers to the bi-dimensional (2D) nature of the process: the letters “U” and “V” denote the axes of the 2D texture because “X”, “Y”, and “Z” are already used to denote the axes of the 3D model.

While creating the UV map, you should take care of the following points:

  •  All the parts(sides ) of the product which is present in the UV map should be in the same dimension as per the boundary set up on the product for each side.
  • The different parts that are present in the UV map should not overlap with each other.

► To create the UV map, you can take reference from the video.

Let’s take an example of different parts of the T-shirt in the UV map. Click here to know how the sides of the product in the UV map are matched with the dimensions of the boundary setup on the product.
