How to Create a Product Skeleton Template

Steps to Create a Product Skeleton Template

  1. Open Photoshop. Go to the top menu and click File → Open to open the white-grey product image.
  2. Fix tone and color issues by adding contrast. To do that, go to Image → Adjustments → Levels.
  3. Next, select the Magic Wand Tool from the left-side toolbar and click on the background (i.e., outside the product image).
  4. Press CTRL + J to create a duplicate layer. (You will see a new layer – Layer 1 – appearing in the Layers Panel located on the right.)
  5. Go to the Layers Panel and select the Background layer. Again, select the Magic Wand Tool and click on the background. Then go to Select → Inverse (CTRL + SHIFT + I) to remove the background.
  6. Press CTRL + J to create another duplicate layer. (You will see a new layer – Layer 2 – appearing in the Layers Panel on the right.)
  7. Go to the Layers Panel and select the Background layer. Fill it with a background color. Then select Layer 2 and reduce the Fill to 50%.
  8. Now, brush your product image. To do that, select the Eraser Tool from the left-side toolbar. In the top sub-menu, set Opacity to 15%, Brush Size to 180, and Hardness to 0. Start brushing.
  9. Once done, select the Background layer and change its color.
  10. Deselect the Background layer and save the image (File → Save for Web, Format: PNG).

Your product skeleton template has been created!
