Steps to Create a Product Skeleton Template
- Open Photoshop. Go to the top menu and click File → Open to open the white-grey product image.
- Fix tone and color issues by adding contrast. To do that, go to Image → Adjustments → Levels.
- Next, select the Magic Wand Tool from the left-side toolbar and click on the background (i.e., outside the product image).
- Press CTRL + J to create a duplicate layer. (You will see a new layer – Layer 1 – appearing in the Layers Panel located on the right.)
- Go to the Layers Panel and select the Background layer. Again, select the Magic Wand Tool and click on the background. Then go to Select → Inverse (CTRL + SHIFT + I) to remove the background.
- Press CTRL + J to create another duplicate layer. (You will see a new layer – Layer 2 – appearing in the Layers Panel on the right.)
- Go to the Layers Panel and select the Background layer. Fill it with a background color. Then select Layer 2 and reduce the Fill to 50%.
- Now, brush your product image. To do that, select the Eraser Tool from the left-side toolbar. In the top sub-menu, set Opacity to 15%, Brush Size to 180, and Hardness to 0. Start brushing.
- Once done, select the Background layer and change its color.
- Deselect the Background layer and save the image (File → Save for Web, Format: PNG).
